PCTG: Stronger, Tougher, and Clearer

The terephthalate polyester family also includes a lesser known but also glycol-modified copolyester, PCTG. PCTG is similar to PETG in application and molecular structure. However, PCTG has higher chemical resistance, a larger range of melting temperatures, and increased durability. These qualities make PCTG easier to work with while also providing the same safety and recyclability as PETG.
From an aesthetic stand point, PCTG offers a matte or glossy finish depending on the print temperature.
What makes PCTG unique is its superior Izod Impact Resistance. This means it can withstand much higher impacts than similar filaments while still maintaining similar tensile strength and heat resistance.

PCT Gmaterialplastic bottle is usually used for water packaging because of its BPA free, food grade, and heat resistance feature.
As PCTG has the transparency like glass and close to the glass density, good gloss, resistance to chemical corrosion, impact resistance, and easy to process, with injection mold, injection blowing mold and extrusion blowing mold. It also can be molded into unique shapes, appearance and special effects, such as bright colors, dull polish, marble textures, metallic gloss, etc.
The PCTG products are widely used in sports water plastic bottle, baby feeding plastic bottle, perfume bottle, cosmetic bottle and bottle cap, lipstick tube, makeup box, deodorant packaging, powder plastic bottle and eyeliner.
As a replacement, many manufacturers now adopt another engineering plastic – polycyclohexane dimethyl terephthalate modified by glycol (PCTG). It has excellent toughness and good heat resistance at ~120˚C. It is food safe as granted by FDA, and so will not emit BPA. PCTG is generally priced about 20% higher than PC.
The material of water bottle can be PP, PV, PET, PETG. It’s unsafe to use polycarbonate drinking bottles as it will release a harmful compound bisphenol A, which affects reproductive and neural systems. A relatively safe plastic is available but at a higher cost. Yet, consumers may still find difficult when finding a safe bottle.
